Our Shop Is Now Open!

We're beyond thrilled to announce the opening of our Stockport shop located at 17 Lower Hillgate. The shop has been a complete labour of love for me and a dream come true ( with a few minor challenges and lessons learnt along the way). Everything within the shop has been carefully chosen, sourced and executed by myself from the shop design, decor, fixtures, fittings and of course the stock itself! This shop really has been fuelled on a love and passion for vintage.
The idea of the shop design was to create a space which is warm, inviting and instantly makes you feel right at home. I'm not going to lie, it's actually based around the interior in my actual home because if I'm going to be spending the majority of my time in one place, I kinda want to feel as snug as a bug. The feature wallpaper is original 1970s deadstock wallpaper which even came in the original packaging and was very nerve racking to put up. For the walls I used Little Greene paints in warm tones of Sunlight yellow and Deep Stock which perfectly compliment the store's bespoke gold clothes rails and teak furnishings. Speaking of which our shelving units, till point and central coffee table are all original vintage teak pieces giving the store it's "right at home" feel. Even the fitting room as been designed to feel like you are entering a little private space just for you complete with shag carpet rug, gallery wall and super kitsch Sputnik inspired wallpaper... A completely nap worthy space for you to be as comfortable as possible whilst trying on vintage treasures.
One thing which really inspired me to create the shop was seeing the disappearance of a lot of my favourite Manchester true vintage stores! Over the years it felt the lines between bargain second hand buying and true vintage shopping were blurred. Personally I love a good rummage through a clearance store or flea market but I also enjoy the special feeling you get from shopping beautiful vintage in pristine condition and respecting the history of an item. I wanted to create a space which makes vintage shopping for everyone. I wanted to show it doesn't have to be hard work and a luxury only reserved for those with "time on their hands" or those who can withstand rifling through unwashed, unloved bargain basements. All the pieces within my store have been lovingly sourced by myself, given TLC and are displayed in the store at their very best. All the hard work is done for you and you'll left with a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing shopping experience.
Female empowerment is at the very core of my values and something I wanted Top Of The Town Vintage to help amplify and so as well as true vintage, I have decide to showcase some of my favourite female founded local businesses. Within the store you can find independent products from Mostly Macrame's plant hangers and bags, to Homebodies delicious soy wax candles with super cool Stockport inspired labels, to Dream Jeanie's ridiculously adorable reversible detachable collars made from reclaimed vintage fabrics.
Come visit us Wednesday to Saturday, 11am until 4pm.
See you soon,
Sophia x
